Bright yellow cotton tea towel decorated with Dutch cheese.
A tea towel is used in the Netherlands to dry the dishes. Because a towel gets wetter during the drying, it is important that first the glassware, cutlery and then finally the cookware is being dried. In this order, the remaining water is becoming less of an issue.
The origins of the tea towel are in 19th century Victorian England. The cups of the tea set were far too expensive to be touched by the servants. The ladies themselves cleaned them with a cloth. Therefore, the cloth was soft, lint-free and easily dried the cups. (Source: Food & Drink )
