Delft Blue candle holders and tealight holders: a warm Dutch glow at home
As soon as the evenings draw in, candles appear in Dutch living rooms. A few tealights on the table or in the window, and a home instantly feels more welcoming. The Dutch even have a word for that feeling: gezellig. A Delft Blue candle holder adds a distinctly Dutch character to the moment, as the warm light shines through the windows of a canal house or plays over the blue flowers and windmills on the ceramic.
Blue-and-white Delftware has a long history. In the seventeenth century, ships of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) brought precious Chinese porcelain to the Netherlands. Potters in the city of Delft began to imitate its blue-and-white look, and so Delft Blue was born. Over the centuries the designs became ever more Dutch: windmills, tulips, canal houses and flowing floral patterns.
De Holland Winkel has been selling Dutch souvenirs and Delft Blue since 2002. In this category we've brought together all our Delft Blue candle holders, tealight holders and candles, so you can easily compare and combine them.
Which Delft Blue candle holders can you choose from?
Canal house tealight holders

Floral candlesticks
Round candlesticks decorated with classic Delft Blue flowers, available in three sizes. Lovely on their own, and even better grouped at different heights on a tray or mantelpiece.
Party lights with windmills and tulips
Small tealight holders featuring a windmill, tulips or hearts, plus tulip-shaped lights in yellow, orange and red. Affordable and cheerful, they look great in a row along a dinner table or on King's Day.
Candles and gift sets
Prefer a ready-to-light gift? Choose a scented candle or candle tin with Delft Blue canal houses, or a gift set that's already beautifully wrapped.
Stepped gable, bell gable or spout gable?
Our Delft Blue houses are inspired by real Dutch facades. Place a few side by side and you have a miniature lesson in architectural history:
- •Stepped gable: the top rises in steps, typical of older buildings from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
- •Bell gable: an elegant, bell-shaped top that was popular in the eighteenth century.
- •Spout gable: a simple, pointed gable often found on old canal-side warehouses.
- •Neck gable: a narrow, raised top with decorative scrolls on either side.
A thoughtful Dutch gift
A Delft Blue tealight holder is a gift that doesn't end up in a cupboard. It gets used, evening after evening, which makes it a lovely present for all kinds of occasions:
- ✓For Dutch expats: a little light from Holland brings a touch of home to wherever they live now.
- ✓After a trip to the Netherlands: an authentic Delft Blue souvenir that keeps your holiday memories glowing.
- ✓For a housewarming: a little canal house for a new home is a charming nod to the occasion.
- ✓At Christmas: in the darker months, an extra candle is always welcome.
- ✓For businesses: an affordable and recognisably Dutch corporate gift for international partners.
Frequently asked questions about Delft Blue candle holders
Which candles fit in the tealight holders? +
The tealight holders are designed for standard tealights. Would you rather avoid a naked flame, for example in a child's room or on a shelf? LED tealights are a safe alternative. If in doubt, check the dimensions on the product page.
How do I use a candle holder safely? +
Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from curtains, plants and anything else flammable. Place the holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ceramic can get warm, so let it cool down before moving it.
How do I remove candle wax from my Delft Blue candle holder? +
Let the wax harden completely first. You can then usually ease it off gently with your fingers or a wooden spatula. Wipe away any residue with a soft cloth and lukewarm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners so the painted design stays beautiful.
Do you ship Delft Blue candle holders abroad? +
Yes. We ship our souvenirs and gifts within the Netherlands and worldwide, so it's easy to send family or friends abroad a little piece of Dutch cosiness.
Can I order candle holders in larger quantities? +
