Buy traditional Dutch candy: a taste of old Holland

The Netherlands has a serious sweet tooth. Alongside liquorice, peppermints and Haagse hopjes, the Dutch grew up with a whole range of old-fashioned sweets that once filled the glass jars at every corner shop. Think of butter babbelaars from Zeeland, made with butter and sugar, or cinnamon sweets that hark back to the days when the Dutch East India Company (VOC) shipped cinnamon from Ceylon to Amsterdam. Simple sweets with a familiar flavour, and that is exactly why they are so loved.

De Holland Winkel has been selling Dutch souvenirs and treats since 2002. In this category we have gathered all the Dutch confectionery that isn't liquorice, peppermint or hopjes, together with gift sets in which sweets play the leading role.

What will you find in this category?

Old-fashioned Dutch sweets

Butter babbelaars, Zeeland butterscotch, cinnamon drops and raspberry sweets from Henri Willig. The classics the Dutch used to buy by the bagful, now available to order online.

Candy tins with Dutch masterpieces

Tins featuring Rembrandt's Night Watch, Vermeer's Milkmaid and Girl with a Pearl Earring, flowers by Van Gogh and De Heem, or a Delft Blue bird. Once the sweets are gone, you keep a lovely storage tin.

Cities, Miffy and kissing couples

Candy tins with Amsterdam canal houses or the Rotterdam skyline, Miffy sweet gifts in full colour or Delft Blue, and a tin with the much-loved Dutch kissing couple.

Sweet gifts and gift sets

Sweets in a wooden clog, a Delft Blue dish, a coffee cup or a milk-churn money box. Or choose a gift set with stroopwafels, biscuits and sweets, and for the festive season a Christmas mug or bauble filled with candy.

A Dutch sweet gift for everyone

Most of our candy tins cost just a few euros, which makes them ideal when you want to bring something small for several people. They are light, sturdy and easy to slip into your suitcase. Looking for something bigger? A gift set with sweets and stroopwafels is a typically Dutch present to send abroad.

  • ✓For Dutch expats: a tin of babbelaars or cinnamon sweets is pure nostalgia, far from home.
  • ✓For visitors to Holland: an edible souvenir featuring a Dutch masterpiece or cityscape.
  • ✓For Sinterklaas and Christmas: perfect as a stocking filler, under the tree or as a festive treat for colleagues.
  • ✓For businesses: candy tins make an affordable corporate gift for international guests and partners.
