Speculaas cookies have a rich history in the Netherlands. These delicious, spicy treats date back to the 17th century, when the Netherlands was a major player in the international spice trade. Speculaas was originally made with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger, which were precious and exotic at the time.
