Delft Blue Tulip Vases
An ordinary vase holds flowers; a Delft Blue tulip vase shows them off. Each tulip gets its own spout, so the flowers fan out gracefully instead of leaning against each other in a bunch. Here you'll find dozens of tulip vases: small table models shaped like a bell, heart or fan, vases on little feet and three-tier tulip towers that you fill layer by layer. Add our artificial or wooden tulips and your vase stays in bloom all year round.
Buy a Delft Blue tulip vase: a Dutch showpiece with spouts
Few objects are as Dutch as the tulip vase. It brings two national icons together: the tulip and Delft Blue pottery. In the seventeenth century tulips were a status symbol, and anyone who owned them wanted them seen. So the potters of Delft designed a vase with separate spouts, giving every flower a place of its own. The result was a vase that doesn't just hold flowers but is a showpiece in its own right. Even without flowers, a tulip vase is an eye-catcher on a windowsill, sideboard or dining table.
De Holland Winkel has been selling Dutch souvenirs and Delftware since 2002. This category brings together vases designed specifically for tulips, along with artificial and wooden tulips to fill them.
Tulip vase or regular vase: what's the difference?
The tulip vase
Has several spouts or openings, usually five to nine per tier, with one flower in each. The stems stay upright and the blooms spread out beautifully. Larger models are made of several tiers stacked on top of each other.
The regular flower vase
Has a single opening for a full bouquet, branches or dried flowers. Looking for a classic vase like that? Browse our Delft Blue vases, from small bud vases to large ornamental pieces.
From the court of Queen Mary to your windowsill
The tulip vase had its heyday around 1690. Queen Mary II, wife of the Dutch stadtholder and English king William III, was a passionate collector of flowers and Delftware. She ordered large tulip vases from the Delft pottery De Grieksche A for her palaces, including Het Loo in the Netherlands and Hampton Court in England. The most impressive pieces were tulip pyramids up to a metre tall, built from separate tiers that each held their own water.
That tiered construction lives on in our larger tulip vases. Many of the decorations draw on the same era too: flowering tendrils, Dutch landscapes with windmills, and the playful monkeys and birds of chinoiserie, the style Delft painters used to imitate the Chinese porcelain brought to Holland by the Dutch East India Company.
Which Delft Blue tulip vases are there?
Small table vases
Compact tulip vases shaped like a bell, heart, fan, cylinder or rectangle. Perfect for a windowsill or as a centrepiece on the dining table, and an affordable Delft Blue gift.
Tulip vases on feet
Classic designs on elegant little feet, in small and large sizes. Choose a windmill landscape, floral patterns or a tulip decoration in Delft Blue or orange.
Three-tier tulip towers
Stackable tulip vases of around 40 centimetres, plus an XL model. Each tier holds its own water. A real statement piece for the living room or hallway, in the tradition of the historic tulip pyramids.
Delft White and modern designs
Prefer something understated? Choose a tulip vase in plain Delft White. Or go for a contemporary design with orchids, elegant flowers or a decoration inspired by Vermeer.
Tulips that never fade
Fresh tulips are mainly a spring flower. Want your tulip vase filled all year? Choose a bouquet of artificial tulips of about 40 centimetres, available in colours including red, yellow, orange, pink, white and lilac. There are classic tulips, ruffled parrot tulips and fringed tulips. For something more playful, some vases come with colourful wooden tulips: a ready-made souvenir to display or give as a gift. You'll find more in our wooden tulips and tulip souvenirs.
Tips for a beautiful tulip vase
- ✓One flower per spout: every tulip gets room to breathe and the arrangement fans out naturally.
- ✓Cut the stems at an angle: tulips keep growing in the vase, so trim them a little shorter than you think.
- ✓Fill each tier separately: in a three-tier tulip vase, every level has its own water reservoir.
- ✓Not just for tulips: daffodils, ranunculus, anemones or single roses look lovely in a tulip vase too.
