Delft Blue Christmas Decorations
Blue and white are the colours of a Dutch winter, and they look just as good on a Christmas tree as on an old tile. Our Delft Blue Christmas decorations give the festive season a genuinely Dutch character: angels, stars and Christmas bells, snowmen in little clogs, reindeer with gold-coloured antlers and hanging ornaments shaped like windmills, tulips and canal houses. For the Christmas table and the windowsill you'll also find standing decorations and ready-made gift sets. Almost everything is made of ceramic, unless stated otherwise.
Delft Blue Christmas decorations: a Dutch Christmas in blue and white
In the Netherlands the Christmas tree traditionally goes up only after Sinterklaas on 5 December, and once it's there it stays for a good few weeks. The Dutch celebrate two Christmas days, then New Year, and many families keep the tree until Epiphany. That's plenty of time to admire what's hanging on it. Delft Blue suits the season remarkably well: the bright blue on white recalls ice, snow and a clear winter sky, and it pairs easily with silver, gold, greenery and natural materials.
The tradition itself goes back centuries. In the seventeenth century, potters in the city of Delft began imitating precious Chinese porcelain with their own blue-and-white painted earthenware. Delft Blue soon became one of the most recognisable Dutch products, and that is exactly why it still makes such a popular gift today. De Holland Winkel has been selling Dutch souvenirs and Delft Blue since 2002, and in this category we've brought together all our Christmas decorations in that style.
What's in our Delft Blue Christmas collection?
Classic Christmas figures
Angels, stars, Father Christmas, reindeer and snowmen, all in Delft Blue. Many have a gold-coloured detail, such as a golden hat, shiny antlers or a little star.
Typically Dutch ornaments
Windmills, tulips, clogs, bicycles, step-gabled canal houses and the famous Dutch kissing couple. There are wintry motifs too, like an ice skate or a kingfisher, and artistic ornaments featuring Girl with a Pearl Earring or The Goldfinch.
Decorations for table and windowsill
Not everything has to go on the tree. Choose a standing ceramic reindeer, a small Delft Blue Christmas tree, a Christmas house or a bell that doubles as a table bell. Matching napkins complete the festive table.
Gift sets and gift boxes
Several ornaments together in a festive box, sometimes with a Dutch treat added. Ready to give and easy to post to friends and family.
A Delft Blue Christmas gift for everyone
A Christmas ornament is light, small and lasts for years. Every December it comes out of the box again, along with the memory of who gave it. That makes Delft Blue Christmas decorations a thoughtful gift, even when you're not sure what someone already has.

Tips for a Delft Blue Christmas tree
- •Combine blue-and-white ornaments with white or silver lights. Warm white softens the blue; cool white makes it look crisper.
- •Hang larger and heavier pieces close to the trunk, where the branches are sturdiest.
- •Pick one theme as a common thread, such as windmills, canal houses or winter animals, and fill in with simple plain baubles.
- •After the holidays, store ceramic decorations individually wrapped in paper or in their original box so nothing gets chipped.
