Dutch bookmarks: a little piece of art between the pages

A dog-eared corner, a receipt, a train ticket: we have all used a makeshift bookmark at some point. A proper bookmark is just as small, but far nicer. Ours are slim folded cards with a flat magnet on each inside face. Fold the bookmark over the page and the magnets hold it firmly in place, so it won't slip out, and you can even line it up with the exact sentence where you stopped reading.

De Holland Winkel has been selling Dutch souvenirs since 2002. Our bookmarks feature famous paintings from the Dutch Golden Age through to modern art, alongside classic Dutch scenes. They make a perfect keepsake of a museum visit, a thoughtful add-on to a larger present, or simply a treat for yourself.

Which bookmarks can you choose from?

Dutch Old Masters

Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Milkmaid and The Lacemaker, Rembrandt's Night Watch, Fabritius's The Goldfinch and Mondrian's bold blocks of colour. A museum collection on your bookshelf.

Vincent van Gogh

Sunflowers, Almond Blossom and The Starry Night as single bookmarks. Fancy more? Pick one of the Van Gogh sets featuring works from the Kröller-Müller Museum or from his final months in Auvers.

Typically Dutch

Tulip fields in full bloom, a windmill among the bulbs, Amsterdam canal houses, colourful clogs in a row, Delft Blue tiles and the Amsterdam flag. Unmistakably Holland, wherever in the world you're reading.

Flowers and animals

Botanical tulips by Maria Sibylla Merian and Jacob Marrell, a floral still life by De Heem and, for animal lovers, a bookmark with a Dutch cow or the famous goldfinch.

For children: Miffy

Looking for a bookmark for a child? Miffy with the Dutch flag, with a birthday cake or visiting the museum makes reading even more fun. Lovely tucked into a picture book as a birthday or new-baby gift.

Art from further afield

Alongside Dutch art you'll find The Great Wave off Kanagawa and other prints by Hokusai, plus a set featuring paintings by Monet. A fine addition for the true art enthusiast.

Why choose a magnetic bookmark?

An ordinary bookmark has a habit of sliding out. A magnetic one stays where you put it. The advantages at a glance:

  • ✓Stays in place: the magnets grip the page, so it won't fall out in your bag or suitcase.
  • ✓Kind to your books: no more dog-ears or cracked spines.
  • ✓Marks the exact line: slide it down to the sentence where you left off.
  • ✓Flat and light: fits into any diary, notebook or envelope.

A small gift with a big story

A bookmark is a gift that pops up again every time someone opens a book. Because they are so flat, they slip easily into a card or a letterbox parcel, making them a quick way to send a little piece of Holland to family or friends abroad.

  • ✓For bookworms: combine a few favourites or choose a complete Van Gogh set.
  • ✓For Dutch expats: a tulip field or canal house between the pages, far from home.
  • ✓For the holidays: a charming stocking filler or a little extra tucked into a Christmas card.
  • ✓For businesses and schools: an affordable giveaway for international guests, pupils or delegates.

Frequently asked questions about bookmarks

How does a magnetic bookmark work? +

The bookmark is a folded card with a thin magnet on each inside face. Open it up, place it over the page and the magnets pull together. It holds firmly without damaging the paper.

Can I write a personal message on it? +

Yes, there is room on the inside for a short note. We can also include a free card with your personal message with your order. Want to make it extra special? Choose one of our gift wrapping options.

Are the bookmarks suitable for children? +

The Miffy bookmarks make a lovely gift for children who are reading. As they contain small magnets, they are not intended as toys for young children. You'll find more ideas among our children's gifts.

Do you ship bookmarks abroad? +

Yes. We ship within the Netherlands and worldwide. Bookmarks are light and flat, which makes them one of the easiest souvenirs to send across borders. See our shipping page for all destinations.

Can I order bookmarks in larger quantities? +

Certainly. Whether it's for a library, bookshop, school, museum shop or as a corporate gift, we're happy to help. Visit our B2B page or email info@hollandwinkel.nl.
