Miffy gifts from Holland: the original Dutch bunny
In 1955 the Utrecht artist Dick Bruna drew the very first book about a small white rabbit. Her Dutch name, Nijntje, is short for konijntje, meaning "little rabbit", and the story is said to have begun on a seaside holiday, when Bruna told his young son about a rabbit they had spotted in the dunes. Bruna worked with bold black outlines and just a few primary colours, and that simplicity is exactly what has kept Miffy timeless. Her books have since been translated into dozens of languages, and children all over the world know her as Miffy.
De Holland Winkel has been selling Dutch souvenirs since 2002, and Miffy has always been part of the family. Every year we send a great many Miffys to fans abroad. Our collection is all about Miffy in Holland: surrounded by tulips, wearing clogs, beside a windmill, on a bicycle or dressed in Delft Blue. So you're giving a gift that is not only sweet, but unmistakably Dutch.
