Stroopwafels
Two thin waffles, a layer of warm caramel syrup in between and a smell that takes you straight back to a Dutch market: few things are as typically Dutch as a stroopwafel. Here you will find stroopwafels in Delft Blue tins, in tins featuring Van Gogh and Vermeer, in cheerful paper bags and as complete gifts with a mug, keyring or wooden tulip. Mini syrup waffles, speculaas and value sets for businesses are in this category too. A delicious, affordable gift for anyone who loves the Netherlands, whether it is for a colleague, a friend abroad or simply yourself.
Buy stroopwafels: the tastiest souvenir from Holland
The stroopwafel, or syrup waffle, comes from Gouda. According to tradition, the Gouda baker Gerard Kamphuisen was one of the first to bake waffles with syrup around 1810, and for a long time Gouda was the stroopwafel city of the Netherlands. Bakers made them from leftover dough, crumbs and syrup, which made them an affordable treat. Today the stroopwafel has become one of the best-known Dutch delicacies in the world. Tourists take them home, expats have them sent abroad and in the Netherlands many a cup of coffee comes with a stroopwafel on the saucer.
At De Holland Winkel we have been selling Dutch souvenirs and treats since 2002, and stroopwafels have been part of our range from the very start. In this category you will find our complete collection, from a single tin to a generous gift set, including the well-known stroopwafels from Daelmans.
Which stroopwafels and biscuits can you choose from?
Stroopwafels in a tin
Our most popular choice. Pick a Delft Blue tin, a tin with Van Gogh's Almond Blossom or Sunflowers, Vermeer's Milkmaid, or a tin with Amsterdam canals, windmills, tulips or Miffy. Once it is empty, the tin makes a lovely storage tin for years to come.
Gift-wrapped stroopwafels
Beautifully wrapped by us and ready to give. With a clog keyring, a wooden tulip, a magnet or a personal message. Ideal if you do not have time to wrap a present yourself.
Gift sets
Stroopwafels combined with a Delft Blue mug, a cheese board, a ceramic storage jar or a selection of Dutch sweets, chocolate and cheese. A complete Dutch gift package in one go.
Mini stroopwafels
Bite-sized syrup waffles in an Amsterdam or Holland bag. Perfect for sharing and ideal as a small thank-you, a treat or a little extra alongside a bigger present.
Daelmans stroopwafels
Daelmans is one of the best-known stroopwafel brands in the Netherlands. You will find them in the classic tins, as well as in special souvenir tins you will only come across in our shop.
Value sets
Six or ten tins or bags at once, better value than buying them separately. Handy for a meeting, a team outing or whenever you want to give several people something Dutch.
More than stroopwafels: speculaas and other Dutch biscuits
Besides stroopwafels, this category also includes Dutch speculaas (spiced biscuits, also known as speculoos) in decorative tins with windmills, tulips and bicycles, and savoury cheese waffles from Henri Willig. Speculaas is especially popular around Sinterklaas and Christmas, but it goes perfectly with a cup of coffee all year round. Looking for even more speculaas? Have a look at our separate speculoos category.
A stroopwafel gift for every occasion
Stroopwafels cost just a few euros and almost everyone loves them. They are well packaged, keep for a long time and are easy to pack in your suitcase. That makes them one of the most practical Dutch gifts around.
- ✓For Dutch expats and emigrants: a tin of stroopwafels is a taste of home that can be delivered anywhere in the world.
- ✓For visitors to the Netherlands: the perfect typically Dutch souvenir to take home.
- ✓For businesses: a stroopwafel corporate gift is affordable, recognisably Dutch and always welcome with international partners.
- ✓For the holidays: at Sinterklaas, Christmas or King's Day, a tin of stroopwafels or speculaas is a festive treat.
Tip: how to eat a stroopwafel like a true Dutchman
Place your stroopwafel on top of a cup of hot coffee or tea for a minute. The warm steam softens the syrup and gently warms the waffle, so it tastes almost as if it came fresh from the market.
