From traditional dress to the farmer's bandana
Traditional dress has never fully disappeared from the Netherlands. In Volendam, Marken and Staphorst you'll still see it worn on festive days and in parades, and the Volendam costume with its pointed lace cap is probably the most recognisable in the world. With a Volendam costume you're all set for King's Day, a themed party or a Dutch evening abroad.
Smaller, but just as typical, is the red or blue paisley "boerenzakdoek", the handkerchief that Dutch farmers and fishermen once tied around their necks. We like to pair it with a little wooden clog that serves as a scarf ring. A small, playful gift with a real story behind it.
