Why are we temporarily not shipping to other EU countries?

Under the new European rules on packaging and packaging waste, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), online shops that deliver directly to customers in other EU countries face additional obligations.

Although the PPWR is a European regulation, online shops currently still have to register and report their packaging separately in each EU country. Depending on the destination country, this may include:

• •registering with a national packaging register;
• •joining a local waste or recycling scheme;
• •recording and reporting packaging weights per type of material;
• •paying national recycling fees;
• •appointing a local authorised representative.

In some countries, these obligations and fixed costs apply even if an online shop only delivers a handful of orders there each year. For an independent, specialised shop such as De Holland Winkel, it is therefore unfortunately not feasible to keep offering shipping to all EU countries in a responsible and affordable way.

Shipping to Belgium and Germany remains available

Belgium and Germany are important destinations for us. Many of our customers live just across the border, or send a Dutch gift from the Netherlands to family and friends there. That is why we are taking the necessary steps to keep shipping orders to both countries. Do you live in Belgium or Germany? Then you can simply order through our online shop.

Is this shipping restriction permanent?

No, we see this as a temporary restriction. Within Europe, there are discussions about simplifying packaging registration, including a possible shared digital registration system. As soon as the rules and practical options allow it, we will review which EU countries we can ship to again.

We regret that this means we are temporarily unable to serve all of our customers within the European Union. However, this decision is necessary to prevent the fixed registration costs and administrative obligations from becoming out of proportion to the small number of orders per country.
