DELFT WARE
During de Golden Age (1600-1700) people became familiar with the delicate Chinaware.
It was imported by a.o. Dutch and English merchandisers. People all over Europe tried to copy this magnificent earthenware.
Craftsmen from Delft successfully produced a type of earthenware, the famous "Delft Blue", which was very similar to the
original Chinaware. Not quite, because the special soil, kaolien, is not available over here. But the resemblance was so
strong that it was named: Delft porcelain, Delftware. The earthenware was painted with exact copies of the Chinaware.
